Several Cimarron County residents participated in the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Texas County last weekend in Guymon when over $33,200 was raised to help fund research, patient services, education and advocacy. The Relay was the 11th annual event to be held in the Oklahoma Panhandle with Cimarron County residents, especially cancer survivors and their families, always invited to attend.
The ACS Relay For Life not only honored local and area cancer survivors but remembered those lost to cancer during a 10 p.m. luminaria ceremony.
Throughout the night, teams kept one person walking the track while others enjoyed games, contests and music. The Seaboard Foods team was the top money raiser while the Electric Crusaders of Hooker won the Spirit Trophy and the Guymon Daily Herald team earned the award for the best tent site fitting into the theme of “Around the World in 12 Hours.”
Anyone interested in becoming involved with the ACS Relay For Life of Texas County as a committee member, team captain, corporate sponsor or volunteer is invited to a 2006 wrap-up/2007 kick-off meeting set for Tuesday, Aug. 15.
Details are available by emailing Maria Chavez at Maria_Chavez@SeaboardFoods.com or calling Sheila Blankenship at 580-522-1076.
