2005 FSA county committee elections
The Farm Service Agency (FSA) is preparing for the 2005 County Committee election and now is the time for producers to submit nominations for candidates in Local Administrative Area #1 (LAA #1). LAA#1 is an area described approximately as: beginning from the Boise City town square then proceeding 9 miles east, then 18 miles north to the Colorado State line, then again beginning from the town square proceeding 9 miles west, then 16 miles south to the Texas State line, the area north and west of this line as described is considered as LAA#1.
The nominating period for the 2005 County Committee election has been extended. The ending date for nominations is now August 15, 2005. During this time eligible producers can nominate themselves or another producer as a candidate for the County Committee election. Nomination forms (FSA-669A) are available at the FSA Office or online at
http://forms.sc.egov.usda.gov/eforms/main-servlet. Nomination forms must be signed by the nominee as the form includes a statement that the nominee agrees to serve if elected. Nominations for the 2005 election must be postmarked or received in the FSA Office no later than the close of business August 15, 2005.
To hold office as a County Committee member, a person must meet these basic eligibility requirements:
1. Participate or cooperate in a program administered by FSA.
2. Be eligible to vote in a county committee election.
3. Reside in the LAA in which the person is a candidate.
4. A person must not have been:
• Removed or disqualified from the office of county committee member, alternate, or employee.
• Removed for cause from any public office or have been convicted of fraud, larceny, embezzlement, or any other felony.
• Dishonorably discharged from any branch of the armed services.
The election schedule for the 2005 Cimarron County Committee election will be as follows: Nominating period is June 15 through August 15 , November 4 ballots will be mailed to eligible voters, December 5 will be the last day to return ballots to the FSA office, December 8 ballots received will be counted, and January 1 the elected committee members take office.
The election of producers to the County Committee is important for all farmers and ranchers with large or small operations. The County Committee serves as a direct link between the local agricultural community and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). Committee members help with the delivery and the decisions necessary to administer programs offered by the local FSA office.
