Tri-County Youth Tour Winner Returns from Washington D. C.
Hooker-Summer James of Boise City , has recently returned home following an eventful, fun-packed week in Washington , D.C. Summer, daughter of Jesse and Gayla James, was the Cimarron County winner of the 2006 Rural Electric Cooperative “Youth Tour Contest,” sponsored by Tri-County Electric Cooperative in Hooker, Oklahoma .
The 43 rd Annual Rural Electric Cooperative Youth Tour began June 9, 2006 with a “Get Acquainted Banquet” in Oklahoma City . The 66 young winners, representing twenty-five of the state's rural electric systems, departed for the nation's capital the next morning.
“In my opinion, the most exciting part of the trip was visiting the Library of congress. It was one of the most beautiful buildings in Washington , D.C. Also the Holocaust Museum was very moving,” said Summer. “Other highlights of the trip were the U.S. Marine Sunset Parade, the Potomac River boat cruise, and, most of all, forming new friendships,” according to Summer.
In addition to seeing all the historical monuments and taking photos of the White House, the young Oklahoma winners toured several sites. On June 12 th , the young Oklahomans met with more than 1,425 other Youth Tour winners from across the nation at a dinner hosted by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Associations.
