Martinez held for false I.D.
by C.F. David
Michael Martinez, who had identified himself as Marcus Martinez when arrested last week for Public Intoxication, is now under arrest for falsely identifying himself as his brother Marcus, currently a resident of Tucson, Ariz.
Michael Martinez, when arrested on the P.I. charge carried no ID and verbally identified himself as Marcus and signed into the jail under that name.
According to Assistant D.A. Stanley Manske, Martinez was leaving the courtroom after pleading to the PI charge when the Sheriff's Office received a call from the real Marcus Martinez. Subsequently, Marcus Martinez, with the help of the Pima County Ariz. Sheriff's Office, was able to prove his identify.
Michael Martinez was arrested and charged with falsely impersonating another, a felony which carries a possible sentence of up to 10 years.
By signing his brother's name when booked into jail, Martinez is also charged with forgery by instrument, a charge which could mean a year in the county jail and a fine of $500.
Martinez is presently held in the Cimarron County Jail under a bond of $11,000.
