Do you have any fears? I do! I don't like wasps, because I am very allergic to them. I don't like heights, unless I'm strapped into an amusement park ride. I don't like spiders, unless they are dead. And I don't like snakes, because they are snakes. This morning I would like to share with you another fear that I have.
I am afraid that the “freedom of speech” that I have been assured of under the constitution is in jeopardy. I am afraid that society is in many ways becoming intolerable. You may ask, “Brother Jay, how can you believe that, in a day where we see profanity including the Lord's name in vain on television. Brother Jay, how can you believe that in a day where we see newscasts that are not only delivering the news, but delivering it with an obvious bias. Brother Jay, can't you see that in today's society a person is welcome to say what ever they want to say?” And I would disagree with that.
I personally believe that if a person happens to be a conservative, Biblical, God-fearing Christian that he/she is not encouraged to say what they want to say. Society seems to expect the conservative, Biblical, God-fearing Christian to listen to the opinion of general society but society does not have to hear the opinion of the conservative, Biblical, God-fearing Christian. That is a double standard, and I do not believe that is right. I do not like eggs. You have the right to tell me that eggs are delicious, but I also have a right to tell you eggs are nasty.
I love our country. We have a freedom that many countries do not have. Let us hope that the freedom that our country has will always continue to encourage freedom of speech whether we agree with the opinion or not. As I close I would like to share with you a scripture that pertains to this situation.
“Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage – with great patience and careful instruction. For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own doctrines, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.” 2 Timothy 4:2-4
