Playas, Gems of the Plains” Exhibit at Museum

A traveling exhibit project of the Northwest Texas Museum Association, “Playas. . . .Gems of the Plains”, is currently on display at the Cimarron Heritage Center Museum , and will continue through most of the summer. Playas are a unique natural feature of the High Plains region, and 96% of the world's playas are found here.

This is an exhibit for all ages. Visitors will walk around 20 panels, covering a wide range of topics including the function, history, natural history, art, uses, and abuses of playas. This exhibit is interactive and contains a variety of educational materials.

The CHC museum is open Monday-Saturday from 10:00-12:00 and 1:00-4:00 . The exhibit arrived just in time for Cimarron County 's Santa Fe Trail Daze Celebration.

Thanks to the generosity of four major donors, the exhibit will travel around the Playa Lakes Region of Texas, New Mexico , Colorado , Kansas and Oklahoma . The major funding has been provided by the Amarillo Area Foundation, the Don and Sybil Harrington Foundation, the Meadows Foundation, and the Playa Lakes Joint Venture.
