Mustang High School Student Serves As Page for State Senate OKLAHOMA CITY - Mustang High School student Desarea David has completed a week of service as a page for the State Senate, announced Senator Kathleen Wilcoxson ( R-Oklahoma City ) at the Capitol this week. Pages assist with critical tasks during busy legislative sessions. They visit a variety of Senate committee meetings and go to daily sessions of the complete Senate. One of their principal functions is to take messages to and from Senators in the Senate Chamber, which is prohibited to the Executive Assistants and other Senate faculty. The page program provides students like Desarea the educational experience of learning various legislative processes and the procedures required for a bill to become law. They participate in mock sessions in which students assume the responsibilities of a legislative official and reenact the duties of that position. Desarea served at the Capitol during the 3 rd Week of the Legislative Session, from February 20-23, 2006 . “I am grateful for all the help that Desarea contributed this week,” said Senator Wilcoxson. “She is very intelligent, and I know she has a bright future ahead of her.” Boise City News |
