Donut Shop changes name, owners

The Goldenlight Bakery, on North Cimarron St. opened on Tuesday, April 17 with a new owner and name.

Misty Mankins, the former assistant cook for the Boise City Senior Citizens Center has purchased the business from Sherry James.

She worked at the Senior Center for 13 months and cooked at the Keyes School Cafeteria for two years before that.

“I’ve always wanted to own my own business; I really wanted to open a Knick-Knack Shop. But I looked around and decided that what Boise City needed was more places to eat.”

Mankins has renamed the shop The Snack Shack.

In it’s first week of operation The Snack Shack will be open from 7:30 til about 11a.m., serving donuts. On Monday, April 23, the hours will stretch from 7:30 to 4:30 and the menu will increase to include such things as Swiss steak and chicken fried steak, and only burgers one day a week.

“Some people think I’m going to be a soup and sandwich shop. That’s not me,” Mankins said. “We won’t be a full service restaurant...yet; because I don’t have a grill.”

Without the grill Mankins explained that her dishes would be baked, something she thinks will prove popular to those wanting to move away from fried foods.

“For right now, the only thing fried will be my donuts,” she grinned.

“All of my breads, including my hamburger buns will be fresh baked,” she added.

She will also serve homemade pies and candies.
