It's time to register to vote

An annual school runoff election will be held for the board of education office number one, in the Keyes School District on Tuesday, April 4, 2006 . State law requires the runoff election if no candidate in the regular annual school election receives more than 50 percent of the total votes cast.

The Keyes voters will have to choose between incumbant Tommy Grazier and challenger Debra Copeland.

Vicki Turner, Secretary of the Cimarron County Election Board, said that board of education candidates Copeland and Grazier received the highest number of votes in the February 14 election and therefore will meet in the runoff election on ApriI 4.

Voters who are registered and reside at an address within the geographic boundaries of the Keyes School District are eligible to vote in the second election on April 4.

Friday, March 10, is the last day to apply for voter registration in order to vote in the annual school runoff election.

Turner said that persons who are United States citizens, residents of Oklahoma and at least 18 years of age may apply to become registered voters.

Persons who have never registered to vote before or who are not currently registered in the county of their residence and persons registered but need to change their registration information may apply to register or change their name or address by filling out and mailing an Oklahoma Voter Registration Form in time to be postmarked before midnight Friday, March 10.

Applications postmarked after that time and date will be accepted and processed, but the applications will not be approved until after the April 4 election.

The county election board will respond in writing to each person who submits an application for registration. The response will be either a voter's identification card listing the new voter's precinct number and polling place location or a letter explaining the reason(s) the application was not approved. Any registrant not receiving a response within 30 days should contact the election board.

Voter registration forms are available at the Cimarron County Election Board office in the courthouse basement, on its door, or in the tag office.
