Work Begins on Centennial Corner
Cimarron County received a $20,000 grant from the Oklahoma Centennial Commemoration Commission in May of 2006. A Centennial Committee was formed with representatives from the county, city, museum, and chamber. The grant's instructions were “to undertake a project that can be accessed and enjoyed by all the residents of Cimarron County ”. A set of options for this project was also included.
Work will soon begin on the “Centennial Corner” of our courthouse square. The committee chose the southeast corner of the square to place a two-sided ten foot centennial clock and six foot centennial bench, at the approximate cost of $18,500.
The Rotary Club has chosen to add a drinking fountain to “Centennial Corner” as their community project to celebrate Rotary International's 2005 Centennial.
In order to complete this Centennial project, the committee is asking individuals, organizations, and clubs to consider donating money to make up the difference of the grant and the cost. We need to raise $1500 to complete this project. Please consider donating to the Centennial Corner at your next meeting!
