In person absentee voting begins Friday
County voters will vote on sales tax; Boise City voters on Xcel energy franchise
Absentee voting by mail has already begun, and in person absentee voting will begin on Feb. 20 and continue on Feb. 23. Cimarron County voters will get a chance to continue the two percent sales tax voted in three years ago to support Cimarron Memorial Hospital. Boise City voters will have an opportunity to vote if Xcel Energy (SPS) should have an energy franchise with the city.
Cimarron County voters who wish to vote absentee have missed the deadline for voting by mail in the special county and municipal elections. However, they may still vote absentee on Friday, Feb. 20 and Monday, Feb. 23, from 8 a.m to 6 p.m. at the election board offices in the basement of the Cimarron county Courthouse.
In person absentee voters will complete an application form when they arrive at the office. They are not required to state a reason for voting absentee, but are required to swear that they haven't voted an absentee ballot by mail and that they will not vote at their polling place on election day, Tuesday, Feb. 24.
Polls wil be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on election day for the special county and municipal elections.
County Election Secretary Vicki Turner says that a valid mark on the ballot, (a filled in arrow), will be shown on posters at each polling place and in each booth.
If a mistake is made, the spoiled ballot should be returned to election officials so another can be issued.
Turner also said voters should bring their voter identification cards to the poll with them.
Registered voters who become incapacitated after 5 p.m., Feb. 17, may still vote on an emergency basis. Call 544-3377 for information.
