Baird steps up for 18 points
Wildcat running back Tyler Baird scored three touchdowns on Friday night as the Wildcats dealt the Texhoma Red Devils a second defeat when they came back for seconds.
The ‘Cats had earlier defeated their rivals in post season play.
With 3:48 left in the first quarter, Baird scored on a four-yard run and quarterback Chase Loyd tacked on two for the 8-zip lead.
With just over three minutes gone in the second, Texhoma's Kade Shoulders ran for six from six yards out and Tim Moore kicked for one more, 8-7.
With 33 seconds left in the first half, Texhoma pulled ahead for the only time on a Gabe Ramirez run and Moore's kick, it was 14-8, Texhoma at the half.
A 46-yard Chase Loyd pass to Matt Daffern and a Loyd kick made the score 15-14 and the ‘Cats never let Devils off the mat. Four minutes later, Baird scampered for 13 yards, Loyd's kick failed, 21-14.
With 4:41 left in the fourth, Shoulders ran for six, the kick failed and the ‘Cats hung on 21-20. With 34 seconds left, Baird scored again from 12 yards out, and Loyd iced the Devils with a kick, 28-20.
